Lenten Reflection for Day 14

Bible Passage: Mark 10:13–16 (NRSV)
13 People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. 14 But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. 15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.
Reflection:
Remember the last time you took a walk with a 3 year old… Every few seconds they would stop to examine rock, petal, leaf or bug. Their world is one of amazement and wonder. They look, explore, touch, love… completely, accepting the guidance given by the caring adult.
When was the last time you stopped what you were doing to gaze with awe at a snowflake? Stare at a sunset or sunrise? Perhaps a rainbow caught your eye or a deer in the yard? Did you appreciate the ice on the tree branches? Examine the dead flower your grandchild lovingly placed in your hand? Shout with joy at the first crocus that pops it head up? Treasure a fallen leaf?
A child lives simply and completely. They trust those around them to teach and guide them. They love all. They have no hidden agenda or expectations. This to me is how God wants us to believe, worship and love him…..with wonder and awe, simply and completely.
Prayer:
Dear God, Thank you for giving us children to remind us of the wonder and beauty of this world. Help me to see everyday things with eyes of wonder and amazement. Let me trust and talk to you the way a child is with a caring parent.
