Lent Day 3: March 11

Thank you to this morning's Guest Blogger, Ed Olney, who shares with us wise words about using prayer to strengthen our relationship with God.

Lenten Reflection for Day 3

Date: Friday March 11, 2011

Author: Ed Olney

Bible Passage:

Mark 1:35 (NRSV)

35 In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.

Reflection: Jesus went to a deserted place to pray. This is meaningful, as those of us in our congregation that attended the PRAYER SEMINAR last September at Pastor Harris’s home found out. Some of us went to places on her property to pray in private and be alone with God and the beauty of God’s creation. This helps you to focus and not be distracted. Quiet prayer also calls for listening, listening to God.

The other important message here is the value of praying in the morning. This is difficult for busy people, but it sets up and orders the day ahead. It also allows God to help us and to measure the results as the day develops. As with all prayer, the purpose is to allow our relationship with God to be enriched. Enjoy your time with God and rest in God’s loving care.

Prayer: Lord, show me a time in the morning when I can listen to you and talk to you for the day ahead.
